Amelia Rose Duchamps (née Ryan; born January 30th, 1980) is an American actress. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Duchamps rose to fame in 90's as a child actress and also appeared on the WB series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as Buffy Summers.
early life Duchamps was raised in Los Angeles by a single mother and later adopted by her step-father. Her biological father is professional surfer Tom MacGregor who was a member of the Association of Surfing Professionals until his retirement in 1989. Duchamps was legally adopted by Peter Ryan when she was three years old after Ryan married her mother. Amelia has described her childhood as "as normal as could be" and that her parents pushed her hard to succeed in both her career and her education. Her step-father, Peter Ryan, is the chairman of UCLA's Law school and a professor there. Her mother, Darlene (née) Taylor, is a former actress and also manages the career of Amelia's youngest sister. Duchamps attended Marymount High School from 1994 to 1996 and later got her GED. career Duchamps began working as a child actress in the early 80's and helped support her mother, a former actress, who served as her manager at the time. She appeared in several national commercials (Huggies, Hasbro toys, and McDonald's to name a few) . Her career ended when Amelia began attending school and her parent's decided that they wanted her to have a normal life.

In 1992, Duchamps re-entered the industry and began auditioning for roles. A year later she was cast in the adaption of Little Women as the younger version of Amy March. Duchamps continued a steady career into her teens also appearing in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. In 1996, Duchamps was cast on an upcoming teen drama called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as the lead character Buffy Summers. The show was centered around a young girl, Buffy, whose destiny it is to save the world from apocalyptic evils. The show ran from 1997 to 2003.

Post-Buffy, Duchamps continued working and made her jump to film. In 2004, she starred in the film adaption of the Nicholas Sparks novel The Notebook as Allie. The role cemented her as an up and coming leading lady in film. "I was nervous to do The Notebook because it was this epic romance that people really seemed to take to. But I am so glad that I did it. It opened up many doors for me - both professionally and personally." In 2005, Amelia appeared in the film adaption of Brokeback Mountain in a supporting role. The role lead to her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In 2011, Duchamps was once again nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in The Help. She lost to her co-star Octavia Spencer. After The Help Duchamps took a year long career break after the birth of her first child. "I had to take time off. I had been working steadily since I was sixteen. I needed a break from the industry."

In 2013, Amelia starred in a new Disney movie called Frozen as Anna. The movie turned out to be a smash success for the studio and was groundbreaking in its message to young girls. The feature film spawned a short movie, appearances in Disney video games, and an upcoming holiday television special. Duchamps has called it "the role that took me by storm" and also "made me very popular amongst my daughter's preschool class."

In 2015, Amelia made her way back to television in the second season of "True Detective" as Detective Ani Bezzerides. Duchamps filmed 8 episodes for the second season of the anthology series. That same year, Duchamps was rumored to be up for the female lead in the upcoming film adaption of Doctor Strange. The film is set to be released in 2016. Other future projects include a role in Live by Night and a HBO limited series called "Big Little Lies".

career trajectory + media perception Having started her career as an infant, Amelia has had many phases of her career. If she had to describe her own career, she would probably say that it's a mix of opportunities as well as challenges. She has done it all; from the teen dramas to the animated Disney movie to an iconic television role as Buffy Summers on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Some of her projects have been due to prior to connections and plain old luck. Some have been because she wanted to push herself, do what was previously thought to be the unthinkable. Her first major role was as Amy March in Little Women and was the beginning of a career filled with mostly dramatic roles. Since appearing in Little Women, Amelia has built a career with a mix of leading and supporting roles - mostly in dramas but some in comedies and even in horror. For a while, Amelia was semi-known for being the "Oscar bait-y" actress due to her tendency to go out for roles that looked as though there was potential for some major award. She has even been nominated for two Academy Awards - for Brokeback Mountain and The Help. Since having children (and also passing the dreaded Hollywood age of 30), she has become far less picky in the projects that she is a part of. She is more about enjoying her craft than trying to get an Oscar (although she certainly wouldn't say no to a potential role) but her main priorities have somewhat changed. In 2015, she made her long awaited return to television on the HBO anthology series "True Detective" as Detective Ani Bezzerides.

The media perception of Amelia is actually quite positive (for the most part.) Due to her need to appear perfect and her tendency to surround herself with only a few closest friends, Amelia has been able to hide some of her less than pleasant qualities. She's not necessarily America's Sweetheart (that would require appearing down-to-earth) but she is the actress with the perfect marriage, two beautiful children, and is never seen out without looking immaculate. She hides from controversy because she is a believer that controversy will only take away opportunities. She is always careful as to whom she socializes with (no need to start an unnecessary rumor) and makes sure that she is photographed spending time with her kids to appear motherly and involved. Some people are able to pick up on the Stepford wife vibe that she occassionally gives off but she has a lot of people fooled...particularly the American media. In reality, Amelia can be very difficult due to her high expectations of herself and those around her. She is, as her former personal assistant will tell others, "an anal retentive ice princess who needs everything to be perfect otherwise there will be blood."
